Seven youths were booked on Wednesday for allegedly hurting religious sentiments by posting objectionable content on social networking site Facebook. Bahraich SP Neha Pandey said that an FIR was lodged against the accused, including Vipul Singh, late on Tuesday night under sections 153B, 295A, 504 of the IPC and the IT Act with Kotwali police station.
The SP said that Vipul had posted the objectionable comment on his facebook wall and six other accused had either liked or commented on it. Vipul has already been arrested. The police said that local BSP leader Shariq Khan led members of a particular community to Kotwali police station on Tuesday late night. They lodged complaint against the post and also raised anti-administration slogans.
Force from different police stations was rushed to the spot and the situation was under control, she said and added that further investigation was underway. Pandey said that National Security Act (NSA) would be invoked against people accused of spreading communal tension and added that guidelines had been sought from the state government for invoking NSA in earlier cases.
