Over two dozen activists demonstrating against death sentence to 1993 blasts convict Yakub Memon near Dadar station (East) on Tuesday evening were arrested by the Matunga police. The activists, arrested under section 135 (unlawful assembly), were later let off on personal bonds.
“We were silently distributing pamphlets, yet the cops arrested us under section 135,“ said an activist.Bharat Bachao Andolan's Firoze Mithiborewala, among those arrested, said that nobody advocated acquittal of Yakub Memon. “Our only demand is that his death penalty should be commuted to life imprisonment. Former R&AW officer B Raman's article clearly shows that Yakub had surrendered after the agencies entered a deal with him,“ said Mithiborewala.
