While writer K.S. Bhagavan has received more than 15 threat calls, security was increased at the Karnataka Sahitya Academy here on Monday after it received abuse from over 20 callers for choosing him for the annual Lifetime Achievement Award for 2013.
The writer has been facing protests and threats from right-wing groups after his comments criticising superstitious practises and idol worship. On Monday, academy Registrar, C.H. Bhagya, filed a complaint at S.J. Park Police Station after one particular caller threatened him with “consequences”. The caller – who rang up the Academy landline around 10 a.m. – identified himself as Raghupathi from Hubballi and claimed that the writer had hurt sentiments by criticising the religion and Hindu deities.
