Recently, Shiv Sena did not allow Pakistani Singer Ghulam Ali to perform in Mumbai, inviting strong reactions from across the country. On similar lines, on Sunday evening, Indo-Pak band, Mekaal Hasan Band, was stopped by Shiv Sena from performing in the city. Scheduled to start at 8 pm in the courtyard of Sheth CN College of Fine Arts, the band - comprising Pakistani artistes Mekaal Hasan, Ibrahim Akram, Aamir Azhar, Muhammad Ahsan Papu and Indian vocalist Sharmistha Chatterjee — had to cancel the performance following a drama that enfolded in true Bollywood style.
"Sometime later afternoon, CN trustee TJ Purani received calls asking him to cancel the concert. He was told, 'You are supporting a Pakistani band. Hum aake sab kuch tod denge. Aage aisa karoge toh aapke school ko bhi problem hoga'," said Chetan Chauhan, founder, Jazzabad Club, that got the band here. "I strongly condemn this. People are not open-minded yet. This is all a money game. There is aclass in Ahmedabad who looks forward to such events, but such threats ruin it. We should conduct a drive against such behaviour," added Chetan.
