The Delhi Union of Journalists has condemned the police action at the Kanpur offices of the Hindustan Times and its sister publication Hindustan for their campaign to nail the accused who raped and murdered a child in a local school.
The campaign by the dailies finally led to the arrest of the accused but the police reportedly reacted to the adverse publicity by raiding the premises of the newspapers October 15 night.
The detention and intimidation of staff and disruption of publication and distribution of the newspapers cannot be tolerated, the DUJ said.
