GUWAHATI, March 3 - A criminal defamation suit was filed against All India Congress Committee vice-president Rahul Gandhi in the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kamrup (Metro) today by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangha (RSS).

The suit (case number C.R 559/16 under Section 500 of the IPC) was filed by RSS office-bearer Anjan Bora in the Court alleging that Gandhi, after returning from Barpeta to New Delhi in December last year, had made a defamatory statement before print and electronic media on December 12, 2015 that he was obstructed from entering the Barpeta Sattra premises by some RSS members.
