Delhi court on Thursday granted bail to Aam Aadmy Party chief and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal along with five other AAP leaders in connection with a criminal defamation case filed against them by Union finance minister Arun Jaitley.
Earlier on Thursday, amid heavy security and sloganeering by supporters of both BJP and AAP, Kejriwal and the five other defendants — Kumar Vishwas, Ashutosh, Sanjay Singh, Raghav Chadha and Deepak Bajpai — appeared before Delhi's Patiala House court around 2.30pm. Chief metropolitan magistrate sumit Dass granted bail to them on bail bonds of Rs 20,000 each.
Jaitley also appeared in court to attend the hearing along with some supporters and BJP leaders which included Ramesh Bidhuri, OP sharma and Vijender Gupta.
On December 21, last year, Jaitley had filed this criminal complaint against the six AAP leaders under sections 499, 500, 501, 502 of the IPC for offences that involve making and disseminating defamatory statements
