Is the government considering to relax the process of film certification? Also will filmmakers be able to get certification online instead of going through a long and winding process as is the case now?

While one has to wait till next month for the Shyam Benegal-headed committee to come up with new guidelines for film certification - which film should be given the 'Universal' certificate and which one should get the 'A' tag for adult viewing - and see whether the government makes the process easier and less intrusive from the filmmaker's point of view, censor board member, Vani Tripathi Tikoo, who is also a former BJP national secretary, seemed to favour relaxing the process.

"Today, as a robust democracy and one of the largest film-producing countries in the world where creativity is diverse and thriving, we cannot be seen as meddling with works of filmmakers and distort them," she told TOI.
