All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief and perfume baron Maulana Badruddin Ajmal has filed a defamation suit of Rs 99 crore against one Mustaque Anfar, a trader from Hojai, on Tuesday.
In the suit, Ajmal accused Anfar of making derogatory remarks against him, damaging the former's public image during the recently concluded state polls.
The complaint said Anfar, on April 10, had alleged before the media in Delhi that Ajmal was having a secret understanding with BJP. He also accused Ajmal of taking money from the saffron camp. Senior advocate Dilip Mazumdar and advocate A S Tapader represented Ajmal in court. The AIUDF media cell said, "Both Ajmal and Anfar are neighbours and have perfume business across Arab countries. Both are Maulanas and former alumnus of Darul Ulum Deoband." Ajmal had earlier filed a defamation suit of over Rs 100 crore against Assam Pradesh Congress president Anjan Dutta for making similar statements. Dutta had alleged that Ajmal accepted Rs 150 crore from BJP for a secret understanding between AIUDF and the saffron party.
