The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief and perfume baron Badruddin Ajmal filed a defamation suit of Rs 99 crore against Congress leader Siddique Ahmed on Tuesday.

In the suit, Ajmal complained that Siddique had made damaging statements against him during a public rally in Goalpara earlier this year.

The AIUDF media cell said, "Siddique had accused Ajmal of supplying arms to Muslim youths after the BTAD riots in 2012. This is a damaging statement for Ajmal's public image. The statement is completely baseless."

Advocate AS Tapader and advocate L Takudar represented Ajmal in the court.
