Police registered a case against Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president E V K S Elangovan on a complaint lodged by AIADMK propaganda secretary and member of Parliament M Thambidurai.
In his complaint with the Election Commission, Thambidurai alleged that Elangovan was trying to tarnish the image of chief minister and AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa in his public speeches during election campaigns.
Chief electoral officer Rajesh Lakhoni forwarded the complaint to the city police. An investigating officer said police registered a case against Elangovan under Sections 153 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot) and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) of IPC.
