Even as the controversy over the film screenings last Friday at the Jadavpur University (JU) refuses to die down, a member of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has alleged that the show of 'Muzzafarnagar Baaqi Hai' on campus was illegal.
Ashoke Pandit says he'll shoot off letters on Monday protesting against this to governor Keshari Nath Tripathi, CM Mamata Banerjee, police commissioner Soumen Mitra and the information and broadcasting ministry.
Nakul Singh Sawhney's 135-minute documentary, which has had many screenings across educational institutes, hasn't yet applied for a certificate from the CBFC. According to rules of the Cinematograph Act of 1952, any public show of a film meant for people outside the production team requires a censor certificate.
"How was the film allowed to be screened at JU," Pandit asked. "I am going to file a complaint with the police commissioner and the CM. Since the censor board is under the I&B ministry, I'm going to write to the ministry, too."
