CHANDIGARH: Haryana Police have lodged an FIR in Hisar invoking the stringent sedition law for sharing of a "provoking" message on WhatsApp regarding Jat quota agitation. The latest action seems an attempt to curb the use of social media to share "inflammatory texts", which according to the police, may fuel the tension during upcoming stir.
According to the police, some mischievous element were spreading rumours regarding reservation agitation on Thursday. Taking it seriously, the police lodged an FIR against unknown persons under section 124 A (sedition) of the IPC and under the IT Act at the city police station in Hisar.
According to the city police station SHO Mandeep Singh, they had received the message from a person. "In the message being circulated on WhatsApp groups, there was call to stock up the ration (food) before the agitation starts. The message also mentioned that the stir would spread across all the northern states this time," addd Singh, who is conducting initial probe into the matter.
