The Kerala State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has taken a case against the Thrissur Collector and Superintendent of Police (SP) on a complaint that they failed to protect the privacy of a rape victim.
SHRC member K. Mohan Kumar has taken action on a complaint that the victim, a hearing and speech impaired, was admitted to a general ward for treatment after she was brutally raped.
The police brought the accused to take evidence to the general ward. It was a breach of guidelines of Supreme Court regarding protection of privacy of rape victims, the human rights panel observed.
A case was taken against Collector V. Ratheeshan; Superintendent of Police, Rural, R. Nishanthini; District Medical Officer V. Suhita; and Medical College Hospital Superintendent Shamsad Begam.
The woman was harassed when she was alone at home last week. The victim had suffered serious injuries in the attack.
