The Delhi High Court today sought a response from the Centre on an NGO's plea for appropriate action against a private TV channel for telecasting an allegedly obscene programme.

Issuing notices to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the channel for telecasting the programme 'Emotional Atyachar', a division bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justice Sanjiv Khanna sought their replies by April 27.

Filing a Public Interest Litigation(PIL) before the bench, Indraprashtha People, an NGO, through its President Sanjay Tiwari Ujala, said "through this programme, the TV channel has been hurting the feeling of viewers, spreading vulgarity and demoting social and moral values in our society".

'Emotional Atyachar' is violative of the government's guidelines, the PIL alleged.
Seeking a CBI inquiry into the entire programme and its organisers, the petitioner NGO said "the programme, a pre-recorded one, is being shown to viewers in complete violation of the right to privacy".

Terming the prorgamme as an "organised crime", the NGO said strict legal action was required against the TV channel and claimed that despite several representations to the concerned authorities no action has been taken.
The petition also sought cancellation of the licence of the channel for showing such a programme.
