Former president of Tamil Nadu Congress Committee EVKS Elangovan has knocked on the doors of the Madras high court Madurai bench seeking to quash a defamation case filed against him. Public prosecutor of Kanyakumari district had filed the case against Elangovan few months ago stating that he delivered a speech tarnishing the chief minister's image.

According to prosecution, Elangovan attended a meeting at Karungal Santhai ground on September 27, 2015, during which he made a condemnable speech that was purely malicious and defamatory in nature.
