Kerala Police have registered a case against VHP's international general secretary Praveen Togadia based on the speech he delivered at the Hindu Co-Ordinating Committee's state conference held at Kanhangad in north Kerala on Saturday night.
Police said the case against Togadia was under section 153 (A) of the IPC for promoting communal enmity and religious disharmony.
While addressing the gathering, Togadia had made reference to the Babri Masjid issue, saying construction of the masjid would not be allowed in the controversial land. He also said that Islamic forces were gaining strength in the country.
A section of Hindu men, who were returning after Togadia's public address Saturday night, were attacked while they were passing through a Muslim area in Kasargode. An activist of the Hindu Co-ordination committee suffered serious injuries in the heavy stone pelting.
Believing that Togadia's "inflammatory" speech fomented trouble in the communally sensitive region, the police lodged the case against him.
