The second judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) court convicted senior journalist Gauri Lankesh and sentenced her to simple imprisonment for six months in a defamation case.

The case was filed by Dharwad MP Pralhad Joshi and BJP activist Umesh Dushi. Pronouncing the judgment on Monday, the court found that Gauri failed to provide any substantial evidence for the report, and sentenced her to six months' imprisonment and imposed a penalty of Rs 10,000.
