Tamil Nadu politician and Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) party leader Vaiko was arrested on Monday on charges of sedition which was filed against him in 2009. After being presented before a magistrate he was sent to 15 days of judicial custody. In 2009, Chennai police registered a sedition case against Vaiko for his comment regarding the banned outfit Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), when he said that India would not remain a united single country if the war against LTTE in Sri Lanka was not stopped.
Following the arrest of Vaiko, his travelling passport was also reportedly seized. The arrest of the MDMK leader was made today and he was produced before a magistrate and he did not furnish a bail bond.
