Bhaskar Deka, a local correspondent from Dhekiajuli of Soniitpur district of Assam was manhandled and his camera was snatched and broken by army jawans at Misamari near Tezpur, Sonitpur district, Assam while he was shooting photographs of a scuffle between the local villagers, students and the army.
People were aggrieved when the army closed a road that passes nearby the army camp at Misamari for the public and the students that used the road regularly to go to the nearby school since many years .The army took Bhaskar Deka to the army police station and detained him for some time. He was later on allowed to go.
Journalists Union of Assam (JUA), an affiliate of Indian Journalists Union ( IJU) condemned highhandedness of army and demanded compensation for damaging the camera of Mr Deka.
