While the Police in BJP ruled Madhya Pradesh dropped the sedition charges against 15 Muslims arrested from a Muslim-dominated village in Burhanpur district on the charge of celebrating Pakistan’s victory against India in the finals of the Champions Trophy on 18th June, the Police in Karnataka ruled by the Congress Party refused to drop sedition charges against two persons arrested for celebrating Pakistan’s win over India.

Karnataka arrested six persons, two under charges of sedition and four others for hurting religious sentiments, implying that India-Pakistan match is a fight between Hindus and Muslims.

The two who have been booked under sedition charges were identified as Asif Attara (24), a resident of Hebbala village in Belagavi district and Shabir Ahmed Bijapuri (35) from Savanur town in Haveri district. Both were arrested on the 19th June night following complaints accusing them of celebrating Pakistan’s win.
