Train service have been suspended for security reasons in the Kashmir valley as the pro-freedom groups called for a general strike in protest against the death of two civilians in Anantnag where two Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) militants were killed in an encounter with the government forces on Saturday.

We have suspended all trains in the Kashmir valley for security reasons, a railway official said.

He said all train runs on Srinagar-Badgam in central Kashmir to Baramulla in north Kashmir have been suspended. Similarly trains operating on Budgam-Srinagar and Anantnag and Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu have also been cancelled.

We have suspended the train services following advisory from Police and civil administration, he said. Train runs were suspended several times last month for security reasons on directions from the administration. Meanwhile, the cellular and mobile internet services of all companies, including Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), remained suspended for the second successive day on Sunday as precautionary measure and to prevent spread of rumours in south Kashmir.

The authorities have directed all cellular companies to continue curb on cellular and mobile internet services in south Kashmir to prevent spread of any rumour on social media.
