The internet ban that was ordered in the hills due to the political unrest in the region has now been extended till July 14 by the Darjeeling District Administration.
Internet services have been suspended in the region since June 20. Darjeeling’s District Magistrate, Joyoshi Das Gupta has now extended the ban till “the intervening midnight of 14th-15th July”. Till then, the ban will be effective in the district of Kalimpong as well.
As per sources, Darjeeling District Administration has also served showcause notices to MTS and Airtel as they failed to comply with the internet ban. Both the service providers have been ordered to respond with their reasons within 48 hours.
