The government has asked YouTube to remove all videos related to Jarawas, a protected tribal group in the Andamans. The order has come from the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST), a constitutional body.
NCST’s position is that YouTube videos on the tribal group “outrage the modesty of Jarawas without their knowledge”. The commission also wants that no content on the tribal group is posted in the future in any social media platform. NCST has written to the ministries of information & broadcasting and home affairs, asking them to ensure the order is complied with.
