InMay 2017, the Bund Garden police station had registered a complaint against an unidentified individual for creating a fake Facebook account in the name of Cabinet minister Girish Bapat. Vulgar images of women had been uploaded on this account. As soon as Bapat realised what had happened, the issue was reported to the cops.
On Thursday, the cybercrime cell of Pune police arrested 30-year-old Ruturaj Nalawde of Junnar, who they found guilty of creating Bapat’s fake Facebook account. According to the information that the cyber cell was able to gather, Nalawde had contested for the Zilla Parishad election last year and had lost. In May, however, for no apparent reason, he created about 18 fake Facebook profiles. One of them was in the name of the Cabinet minister.
