A witness said soldiers of army’s 53 Rashtriya Rifles who were on a patrol duty opened fire on a few protestors who had hit the streets against thrashing of vendors.

Army on Friday shot dead a youth at Beerwah area of Budgam district, even as the government foiled a proposed sit-in outside UN office here by imposing strict restrictions in many Srinagar areas.
A witness said soldiers of army’s 53 Rashtriya Rifles who were on a patrol duty opened fire on a few protestors who had hit the streets against thrashing of vendors.


The deceased youth was identified as 22-year-old Tanveer Ahmad Wani son of Muhammad Akber of Beerwah. He was a tailor by profession.
Another youth identified as Muhammad Ibrahim Wani, 22, son of Abdul Gani of Goripora village sustained a bullet injury in his shoulder in the firing. He is undergoing treatment at Jehlum Valley hospital (JVC) Srinagar and is stable, hospital sources told Greater Kashmir.

Witnesses said the firing took place when soldiers of army’s 53 RR were checking identity cards of street vendors who had set up their stalls opposite Mazhar-ul-Haq school.
