Director Suman Ghosh has decided to take the censorship argument further and formally refused to accept the recommendations of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for his Amartya Sen documentary titled 'The Argumentative Indian'. On Saturday, the director said he had officially informed the board that he was sending a letter to ask for his film to be seen by the revising committee. After the certification process went online, all applicants have to register their views on whether or not they accept the CBFC recommendations.

The CBFC had issued a notice to the makers of the Amartya Sen documentary saying it will get a 'U' certification provided they agree to six cuts. In the recommended six cuts, nine words have been asked to be muted. They are 'Gujarat', 'in India', 'Hindu', 'cow', 'used', 'these days' and 'Hindutva'. Among these, one of the cuts is in case of two words ('in India') spoken by Professor Sugata Bose.
