Rattled by the new wave of protests, the Jammu and Kashmir government is planning to block the objectionable pages on the popular social network site "˜Facebook"™ fearing the blasphemous postings may disturb fragile peace in the restive valley.

Under the proposal, the government is planning to block those controversial pages which contains inflammatory contents against Islam. The government is writing to the Centre seeking help in blocking only the pages of the Facebook, which could give handle to the separatists to disturb peace in the Valley.

This follows the recent anti-Islamic postings on the site that led to new wave of protests in Kashmir on Friday with stone-pelting youth taking to the streets clashing with the police at number of places in Srinagar."There are pages on the site which are highly objectionable. We are monitoring closely and seeking ban on these pages because some people may take advantage of it and disturb peace like we saw on Friday", said a top source in the government.

Under the IT Act, it is the district magistrate which has the authority to write to the Union ministry of information technology for blocking any online contents or the site.

Sources said one of the district magistrates of valley has sought blocking the inflammatory contents on the Facebook
State minister of law and parliamentary affairs Ali Mohammad Sagar said police are working overtime to find out who had uploaded blasphemous contents on the Facebook [which created law and order problems in valley].
