West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee directed all schools in the state to ban cell phones among the schoolchildren. He said since there have been several alleged incidents of students falling victim to the Blue Whale Challenge, schools and authorities should be on alert and ensure that the students do not carry mobile phones in schools.
Chatterjee was speaking at the Public Library Day event organised by the Department of Mass Education and Library Sciences when he said the schools must ensure that the students do not carry phones in classes.
