Hindi, Tamil and Telugu films have suffered the most because of the censors' scissors. According to the latest report of the Central Board for Film Certification (CBFC), of the 275 Telugu films produced in 2015-16, 195 were permitted certification only after 'objectionable' content was removed. The Tamil film industry too suffered. Of the 291 films produced, cuts were imposed on 227 films. Of 340 Hindi films, half were given certification without cuts.
"The criteria adopted by the CBFC for Bollywood films is different. They are more bold than Telugu films. If the same criteria is adopted for censorship, there will be fewer cuts in Telugu films," said Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce president P Kiran. "There are too much objections raised for small things. No producer has the time to fight with the censors, so they give in to the demand for cuts," he told TOI. The CBFC, for its part, has always felt that there is much too violence and bloodshed in Telugu films.
