A defamation case was filed against Superintendent of Police in local court here on Saturday for passing derogatory comments against lawyers.
Official sources said here a defamation case against SP Rakesh Shankar was filed by district bar association former president Sinhasan Giri in chief judicial magistrate court here.
In his petition Mr Giri alleged that statement of SP Rakesh Shankar about lawyers was an attempt to tarnish the dignity of layers.
Former bar association president said that SP Rakesh Shankar has stated that lawyers charge Rs 500 to Rs 1000 from poor for writing an application and they have to mortgage their jewellery to arrange the money. Statement of Mr Shankar was published in news daily on last September 30.
Mr Giri said a legal notice was served to SP on October 10 and matter was reported to UP Governor Ram Naik , Director General of police and other senior officers but no actions were taken against him.
