The Bombay High Court allowed the Shiv Sena to take out a procession in Kalyan, a satellite town near Mumbai,but restricted the display of controversial posters depicting the killing of Mughal leader Afzal Khan at the hands of the Maratha leader to the Rambaug area of the town only.
The procession was organised to mark the 350th anniversary of the killing of Afzal Khan.
Last year, the display of similar posters had sparked riots in Miraj town and, fearing a repeat, Thane police had refused permission for a procession in Kalyan with a picture of depicting the killing of Afzal Khan. The order was challenged by the Sena�s Kalyan unit.
The court directed sufficient police presence in Kalyan and that the petitioner would maintan peace.
