Anil Dhirubhai Ambani-led Reliance Group has filed a Rs5,000 crore defamation suit against Congress leader Abhishek Many Singhvi in Ahmedabad High Court. According to reports, the defamation suit is filed over allegations from Singhvi about Reliance Communication Ltd (RCom) and the Rafale deal.
Earlier in November, while speaking about increased non-performing assets (NPAs) of banks, Singhvi, the Spokesperson for Congress, had raised questions on Reliance Group's RCom and the Rafale deal. "We all know that too 50 corporates owe Rs8.35 lakh crore to the banks and of these Rs3 lakh crore are from three Gujarat-based companies- Anil Ambani's Reliance Group, Adani and Essar. Only early this month, one of them publically declared shutting their telecom business with a liability of Rs45000 crore to the banks. Far from declaring it as an NPA, the government is trying to help the defaulter with further defence contracts like the Rafale deal," Singhvi was quoted as saying in a report from DNA newspaper.
Reacting on this, spokesperson for Reliance group had said, "Abhishek Singhvi has made false, defamatory and libellous statements against the group. We will be filing a Rs5,000-crore suit for damages against Singhvi for making these false and defamatory statements."
