It's now Actor Arvind Swamy's turn to give a wake-up call on the burgeoning intolerance and threats of violence faced by artists and works of art in the country.
The Bombay-star chose the occasion of the launch of 15th Chennai International Film Festival on Thursday to share his thoughts on the growing intolerance in a country which won its freedom through non-violent movement, thereby inspiring many leaders across the world, such as Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela to name a few.
Joining the small constellation of stars led by Kamal Haasan and Prakash Raj to raise their voice against intolerance and censorship, Arvind Swamy, in his address as chief guest, noted that in many occasions in the recent past, any expression of art, whether it be cinema, painting or a work of literature, always seem to evoke a rather violent response from a section, calling for a ban, rework or censorship in some form. "Those voices I feel are getting louder and louder," he cautioned.
