The controversy surrounding the publication of phone call data of a senior CBI official overseeing investigations into illegal asset case of YS Jaganmohan Reddy took a new twist on Tuesday with the police registering a case against a journalist and a police inspector for obtaining the information through illegal means.

The cyber crime police station here booked a case against K Yadagiri Reddy, a senior Correspondent of Telugu daily"Saakshi", owned by Jagan, and a city Inspector M Srinivasa Rao under various sections of Information Technology Act, Official Secrets Act and IPC for obtaining and publishing the details of the calls made by CBI Joint Director V Lakshminarayana from his mobile phones.

The media group, owned by Jagan, ran a series of stories last week, alleging that the CBI official had made"hundreds of calls" to a selective group of crime reporters representing the media organisations which have been openly critical of the Kadapa Member of Parliament and his fledgling YSR Congress party.
