Cinema halls across Nepal are currently banned from screening Hindi films following the blockage of transport passing through Maharajganj in Uttar Pradesh by Nepalese Maoists.

The Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), a radical faction of the ruling Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) led by Mohan Kiran Vaidya, last week threatened that his supporters would attack any hall that continued showing Hindi films.

Several Maoist groups established camps in Nepal's border area of Bhairahawa and stopped all the vehicles from moving between the two countries.

Vaidya had alleged that Bollywood movies created hatred against Nepal.

"They portray Nepalese as servants and show us in bad light," he had said.

Raj Kumar Rai, president of the Nepal Film Producers Association, said cinemas across Nepal will incur losses worth crores.
Indian authorities have said there were over 500 heavy vehicles carrying films and other essential commodities which were stopped in the Bhansar area of Belhia in Nepal.
