The Delhi High Court on Monday asked filmmaker Prakash Jha to remove the word Bata from a song, Mehngai, in his upcoming movie, Chakravyuh.
Justice Kailash Gambhir on Monday restrained Jha from releasing, transmitting, distributing, exhibiting, performing or communicating the performance of the song to the public by taking the name of the petitioner company " Bata. The court"™s direction came in response to a petition filed by Bata India Limited alleging defamation against lyricist A M Turaz.
The film is scheduled to be released on October 24.
The parties against whom the defamation suit has been initiated include Jha, Turaz, Eros International which has the video and audio rights, composer Vijay Verma, singer Kailash Kher, YouTube and Censor Board.
Bata submitted that it"™s a globally renowned trade name in the footwear products and enjoys high reputation for its honest and principled conduct, quality and reliability of its products.
The petitioner alleged that lyrics of the said song were offending and cause serious harm to the reputation and goodwill of the company.
