An RTI activist from Pune, who had sought information on the interaction of Amir Ajmal Kasab with jail authorities from the time he was intimated of the rejection of his clemency petition, to the time of his hanging, has been denied the information under Section 8 of the RTI Act that allows exemptions from disclosure of information.
Pune-based activist Vihar Durve had filed the application seeking details from jail authorities at Yerawada in Pune, and Arthur Road prison in Mumbai on their interaction with Kasab and the conversation they had with him from the moment he was told about rejection of his clemency plea.
Durve told Newsline,"Various versions of his last words have been published. There were also stories of him asking for tomatoes to eat the previous day. I wanted to get all these details. Information on all the 11 queries have been denied under Section 8 of the RTI Act 2005. They have quoted all possible sub-sections to deny information. They have written that if I am unhappy with the answer, I can appeal."
