The cyber crime police in Bandra-Kurla Complex blocked Thursday the Facebook pages that created tension in Malad, Malwani and Kandivali on Tuesday night and Wednesday. The pages allegedly had derogatory comments on Prophet Mohammed.

Police contacted complaint Nazimuddin Rafiq Ahmed Khan, an iron dealer of Laljipada in Kandivali (West) Thursday and told him they had blocked 25 FB pages.

Khan had approached Kandivali police Tuesday against the derogatory and abusive comments posted on the profile of a Jaipur resident by a fake user which had been "˜liked"™ by others.

The comments, Khan said, were in the form of jokes on the Prophet."We are investigating the case and tracing the source of the Facebook page," a police officer said.

Meanwhile, Khan and a group of local Muslim leaders have drafted a letter they plan to submit to the Mumbai Police Commissioner, home minister RR Patil and Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan Friday.

"We want the authorities to stop abuse on the social networking website. The website has been misused before, due to which there was a riot-like situation in other areas," said Khan.

Officers from Kandivali police station registered an FIR under section 295 (a) of IPC for hurting religious sentiments, section 153 (a) for promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, and IT Act section 66 (a) for sending offensive or false messages and 67 for publishing information that is obscene. The case was then transferred to the cyber crime police station in BKC.
