Mumbai, Maharashtra
In a nationwide outcry following the gang rape of a 23-year-old medical student in Delhi on Sunday, a website titled thingstodoindelhi-.com added to the furore. The Web site, which had gone online in 2010, featured just one word, RAPE, in bold letters, suggesting that the national capital was all about such perversion.

The website was uploaded by Mumbai resident Chaya Aiyer, the founder of BC Web Wise, with an intention to shame the authorities after a girl was raped in a car in broad daylight two years ago.

Yesterday (Thursday), Aiyer had to pull down the Web site amidst protests. Through the week, twitterverse was abuzz about the site, and many raged on about how the site was making fun of something as terrible as rape.

In an email communication, Aiyer told Mumbai Mirror that the Web site was put up as a satire and a take on the sorry state of affairs in the country."It was very disturbing and shameful that this should happen in the Indian capital; extremely shameful when Delhi was to host the Commonwealth Games."

The site initially started off with the word Rape, but during the Commonwealth Games, the creators also added additional content, but took it down after the Games because it became irrelevant. But since rape continued to be a problem in Delhi, they decided to let the word remain. According to Aiyer, they never promoted the Web site.

"Today (Thursday), I got a message from an acquaintance to check what's happening and may be pull down the site. I checked the tweets and was taken aback by the outrage, and of course it was heartwarming to see the supporters too," she wrote,"To me, Delhi is India. I feel as much about Delhi as I do about Mumbai. That site was just a silent protest URL. That's it."

Aiyer recommends castration as punishment, as she is not convinced that the rapists will suffer enough even after death."People need to demonstrate unison as only collective power can help. If everyone steps forward, such incidents can definitely be controlled. If everyone takes a step forward, many lives can be saved," she said.
