Mohali man booked for hurting religious sentiments

Ludhiana: A SAS Nagar man has been booked for allegedly posting an insulting picture of Guru Gobind Singh on social networking website Facebook. Division number-1 police registered the case against the accused, Amit Sharma, under Section 66A (sending offensive messages through communication service) of the Information Technology Act and section 295A (Deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) of the Indian Penal Code on Saturday.

Sharma is the SAS Nagar president of Shiv Sena. He has been booked following a complaint by Manpreet Singh Bunty, president of Akal Market here.

In his complaint, Bunty alleged that Sharma posted a derogatory picture of Guru Goibind Singh with derogatory remarks under it.

Inspector Surinder Mohan, the SHO of division number 1 police, said the case had been registered following an inquiry conducted by assistant commissioner of police (north) J Elanchezhian. "We will arrest the accused soon," he said.

Contacted, Rajiv Tandon, the state chairman of Shiv Sena, said the organisation did support such acts. "Stern action will be taken against the people involved," he said. The Shiv Sena also submitted a memorandum to deputy commissioner of police Harsh Bansal to take action against such elements.

Man booked for posting morphed picture of Ram Rahim

In another such case, Dugri police registered a Manewal village resident under 298 of IPC (Uttering words with deliberate intent to wound religious feelings). The accused, Sukhmail, has been booked on a statement by Dharampal Insaan of Urban Estate of Dugri.

Insaan, a Dera Sacha Sauda follower, has alleged that the accused posted a morphed picture of Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim on Facebook. He alleged that the picture was derogatory. Dugri police SHO Satwinder Singh said efforts were on to arrest of the accused.
