More than a dozen men allegedly associated with the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajarang Dal vandalized an art gallery in Ahmedabad where exhibition of Pakistan artists' paintings was held.
The members stormed gallery "Amdavad no gufa" which was created by late painter MF Hussain and a noted architect BV Doshi, on Friday after the paintings were put up for show.

Following the incident, the exhibition organizer Ravindra Maradia lodged an FIR against 15 unidentified persons for vandalising the art show. According to sources, paintings worth Rs. 15 lakh were destroyed by the mob that vandalized the place.

The show "An Art Affair" had pairings of 11 Pakistan artists and six Indian artists. The show was brought to Ahmedabad from Mumbai.

"They stormed the gallery and started destroying the paintings shouting that the Pakistan army is killing Indian soldiers on the border," said a witness who was at the gallery.

The artists who works were on display also slammed the mob for targetting artists in the name of politics.

This is not for the first time, the same gallery has been a target. In the past also, the gallery known as gufa was vandalized to protest the late Hussain's painting of "Mother India."
