Following the arrest of a boy uploading obscene photographs of a girl student in social media, at Parkala near Manipal on Thursday, a few miscreants have tried to create communal disturbance by distributing pamphlets with obscene images and statements.
The pamphlets carrying the obscene images of the girl in compromising position with her lover Mohammed Yaseer, who is now in police custody, were distributed in colleges in Manipal and Udupi on Saturday. The pamphlets comprise statements 'appreciating' Yaseer.
"Congratulations to Yaseer. Several Hindu girls in all the colleges are ready to fall prey to you. Keep it up. Well done," says the pamphlet.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Prabhudev Mane said that the police had registered a case based on the complaint filed by a few students and are conducting investigation.
'Book rape case'
Addressing mediapersons, Bajarang Dal Mangalore city convenor Sharan Pumpwell demanded that the police book Yaseer under rape case. "The number of Love Jihad cases is on the rise in Mangalore and Udupi regions. Police have to take action to prevent such incidents," he urged.
Speaking to Deccan Hearld, Udupi Superintendent of Police Dr M B Boralingaiah clarified that the case was registered based on the girl's statement. She (the victim) has not mentioned about sexual assault and blackmail in her complaint, nor has she complained about it during inquiry. Yaseer has said that his girlfriend in Dubai uploaded the photographs without his knowldge. We are investigating this angle too. As the second accused is in Dubai, we will write to the embassy in this regard, he said.
