IJU condemns NSA summoning of editor for questioning
Ref:
Guwahati, Assam

Indian Journalists Union (IJU) strongly condemn summoning of Khoirom Loyalakpa, the Editor of Naharolgi Thoudang by the National Investigative Agency(NIA).

The NIA has summoned him earlier also to divulge the source of certatin news relating to underground groups. Such summoning of a journalist for his/her coverage of news of certain section is clear intervention of freedom of media which is drived from freedom of expression enshrined in our Constitution.

IJU appeals Press Council of India to immediately intervene in this matter. IJU lodged a complaint with PCI earlier also when one Deputy Superintendent of police officiating under NIA summoned the editor asking him to produce certain papers and information relating to the UG Groups.

We are not aware what action PCI has taken on this complaint. We now request PCI to act for upholding freedom of media for which PCI was constituted.
