The iconic Amul Girl, clad in red and white polka-dotted dress with a matching bow in her hair has found herself in trouble for her wit.
Sahara Group has served a legal notice to the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF)"the marketers of brand Amul"on an Amul topical earlier this month.
Titled 'Besahara Parivar?' " which Sahara finds objectionable " the toon takes pot shots at the idea for collection of Rs 1 lakh each from Sahara employees to garner at least Rs 5,000 crore for Sahara group chief Subrata Roy's bail. The ad shows Sahara employees begging for the collection.
Sahara has sent a notice to Amul saying the topical is defamatory. But sources suggest that it does not claim any damages.
"We have received the notice a few days back and have asked our legal advisors and advertising agency (da Cunha) to reply to it," said GCMMF's managing director RS Sodhi.
Sodhi, however, added that Amul has no malicious intentions and that the Amul Girl has always been known for her witty comments on all news-makers.
In 2012, Amul had celebrated the utterly butterly deliciously witty girl's 50 years journey through a special coffee-table book featuring some of her best spoofs.
