Movement of media-persons 'banned' in Kashmir

Following strict curfew restrictions in Srinagar and other towns, the Jammu and Kashmir government has banned the movement of media-persons.

Authorities have cancelled all the curfew passes issued to media-persons. The police and security forces have been directed not to allow any journalist to move in the city.

A senior officer on condition of anonymity told The Hindu that the decision to ban has been taken at the highest level.

The CRPF and police personnel stopped several media persons including correspondent of a news channel who were on way to the offices to report the events. �I was stopped while on my way to office and CRPF personnel told me that no media-person will be allowed to move�, A. M. Sofi bureau chief of PTI told The Hindu.

He said that strict orders have been issued to restrict media from performing the duties.
Similarly another news channel crew was stopped at Sonwar.

Director of Information Zaffar Ahmad also confirmed that curfew passes issued by the District Magistrate have been cancelled.

Sources said that two employees of Information department were also thrashed by CRPF while they were on way to pick up their officers.
