Social media burst out in outrage after DNA newspaper pulled down an article by journalist Rana Ayyub criticisng the newly appointed BJP President Amit Shah.
On Friday, Ayyub, who has been critical of the newly-elected Narendra Modi government, tweeted that her opinion piece titled 'A new low in Indian politics' had been taken down from the newspaper's website, without any justification given to her.
On Twitter, people voiced out their opinion and asked if this was the end of 'free and fair' journalism. Here are some of the reactions:
According to a report in Newslaundry, this is not the first time DNA has pulled down an article. On 30 April 30, the newspaper had taken down an article titled"Mamata Banerjee calls Narendra Modi "˜butcher of Gujarat"™; here are 9 myth busters on 2002 post-Godhra riots" written by Shehzad Poonawalla. Kunal Majumder, Associate Editor (Digital) at Zee Media told Newslaundry that he was not the one to take the article down."I also got to know when Rana came to know", he said. Ayyub, in turn created a blog and has posted her column there.
