Contempt notice to Jagran

IN Media Watch Briefs | 04/10/2016

Two years after it took cognizance of a contempt petition filed by the Indian Federation of Working Journalists on behalf of Dainik Jagran employees against Jagran Prakashan Limited, the Supreme Court today decided to initiate contempt proceedings against JPL and to issue a notice to its CEO Sanjay Gupta. In Oct. 2014 the apex court had ordered implementation of the Majithia Wage Board's recommendations within two months. Today the court also directed all labour commissioners to act on applications received under the Working Journalists Act in this case.
