The BBC’s star presenters will no longer be parachuted into distant lands to report on news unfolding there. The BBC reportsthat in a move to cut costs, they will be confined to conducting two-way interviews from the studio with reporters on the ground, who, the Corporation’s bosses feel, have a better understanding of local events. It remains to be seen if Indian television channels, accustomed to flying out their high profile anchors to all corners of the world, will take a leaf out of the Beeb’s book.
