British prime minister Gordon Brown calls a voter bigoted as he drives away from a campaign meeting where she asked a question. A radio mike he is still wearing picks it up, and when he is on an interview panel it is played back to him on air. The woman he has called bigoted tells reporters she will not vote for him. Brown then lands up at her door and says he misunderstood her question. Moral of the story: trailing candidates cannot afford to be careless with mikes.
